Big Yellow Bus Celebrates Six Years With Special Performances

As this November marks the sixth anniversary of Big Yellow Bus, the Playground’s longest running production, each month leading up to the anniversary will welcome a different theme of artists to provide inspiration to the performers. Beginning in September with “Writers Month,” BYB will welcome teen fiction author Jeff Miller on September 16, and playwright Jenni Lamb on September 23.

Each week the core cast of BYB, a.k.a. the “Maintenance Crew,” performs with a miscellaneous cast of guest improvisers, assembled the night of the show to provide a unique improv experience. The core cast of Big Yellow Bus features Seth Dodson, Mel Evans, Jorin Garguilo, Lauren Glass, Kat Gotsick, Lisa Linke, Roger Payton, Sammy Tamimi, and Mary Beth White.

Jeff Miller (September 16)
Jeff is a professional transient originally from Kent, Ohio. His credentials include ultimate frisbee instruction, cactus handsawing, post-hurricane homebuilding and working in a homeless shelter under the supervision of a man named ‘Squirrel.’ He is working on his first teenage fiction novel. It does not involve vampires. Yet.

Jenni Lamb (September 23)
Jenni Lamb has recently made a switch to writing after being an actor and improviser for over ten years. Her well-received first play, Memento Polonia, was self-produced in 2006 at The Peter Jones Gallery. Her ten-minute play, A Crucible, was selected as part of the Chicago Dramatists Ten-Minute Play Festival in 2008, and was also produced by Appetite Theatre Company in 2009. This fall, she will be an MFA candidate in Writing for the Screen and Stage at Northwestern University.

Big Yellow Bus performs Thursdays at 8pm with two opening improv ensembles at the Playground Theater, 3209 N. Halsted St. in Chicago. Reservations can be made at (773) 871-3793 or www.the-playground.com. Tickets are $10 or $5 upon presentation of a valid student ID.
