Some girls dream about their wedding day. Others long to play with ponies. Only a select few name and collect their scabs, speak to imaginary rodents in their minds, and make mortal enemies out of cute yellow doggies. BRUISER is a true story of how a misplaced tomboy blossoms into an even more awkward adult. BRUISER tackles the hilarity of adolescent and adult humiliation using Kelsie Huff’s trademark blend of uproarious characters, crushing and unavoidable hereditary influences, and seamless storytelling.
Theater Undreground is happy to present their season’s first fundraiser with the world preview of Bruiser, written AND performed by hometown girl Kelsie Huff. The night will open with Theater Undreground’s improv ensemble Losers. Proceeds from this benefit will go towards Theater Undreground’s new theatrical season.
Theater Undreground is a non-profit theater company that intends to flip the perception of live theater in McHenry County by bringing, bold original and underperformed plays to the stage. Theater Underground seeks to mentor both local and fresh: writers, directors, actors, musicians and other theatrical talents; while providing quality, inexpensive and unique theater experiences for the community. Theater Undreground aims to lead by example and inspire the community; from the encouragement of local business to participation in and donations to local charitable organizations.
About Kelsie Huff
As a zygote Kelsie was stuck in her mother’s womb-bone. It took some pullin’ and yankin’ but the good people wearing stiff scrubs got her out and only damaged her right ear flap with their shiny medical tools. But who really needs two ear flaps anyway? Ear flaps are overrated. Kelsie has been living a 1/2 ear flap life ever since and it’s been good. She uses said ear flap to make comedy. Huff is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago, Second City’s Conservatory, Writing and Stand-up Program, and iO’s Writing Program. Currently she performers and produces the kates; an all female comedy showcase and co-produces and performs at Studio BE in Chicago. Kelsie has performed at The Lincoln Lodge, Doyle’s Pub, Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, Chicago Underground Comedy, Dairy Center for the Performing Arts, Lakeshore Theater, Olive Black, and Circuit. BRUISER is Kelsie’s second one woman show. www.kelsiehuff.com
