Laugh Off Lupus! presented by Studio BE

Chuckles and Cocktails for Charity Presented by Stand Up @ The BE

Laugh Off Lupus ! – Presented by Stand-up @ the BE is an inaugural comedy event dedicated to raising money for the Lupus Foundation of Illinois. The evening will feature five of Chicago’s funniest stand up comics: Kenny Metroff, Kelsie Huff, Kevin Kinner, Beth Stelling, and Sean Flannery. Throughout the show, audience members will be able to enter raffles for gift baskets donated from Lakeview businesses. All proceeds from ticket and raffle sales will be donated to The Lupus Foundation of Illinois. Complimentary beer and wine are included in the ticket price.

The event begins at 9:30pm on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Studio BE

Stand Up @ The BE is thrilled to charitably spice up its fall line up by producing Laugh Off Lupus. Kenny Metroff, the host and producer, developed this event as a way to honor those who are affected by Lupus.  The date, October 2, coincides with the Lupus Foundation’s 9th Annual Downtown Chicago Walk For Lupus Now! in Grant Park. While both parties recommend purchasing tickets online, tickets for Laugh Off Lupus will be on sale that afternoon at The Walk For Lupus Now! The coordinators of the event recommend our sponsor, Matilda’s bar, for a preshow dinner or post-show nightcap.

The cast of comics includes:

Host/Founder/Producer Kenny Metroff
Kenny Metroff’s brand of comedy can be described as “an eclectic post-modern hodge podge of both story-based observational hilarity and fantastical guffaws”. In essence, he shares that which tickles him in order to brighten your day. Kenny has been performing stand up professionally throughout the Midwest since 2005. He currently produces Stand Up @ The BE on Saturdays at 10pm Studio BE theatre in Lakeview. (www.studio-be.org) He can also be seen performing improv and sketch comedy at the same theatre with pH Productions (www.whatisph.com). Kelsie Huff
As a zygote Kelsie was stuck in her mother’s womb-bone. It took some pullin’ and yankin’ but the good people wearing stiff scrubs got her out and only damaged her right ear flap with their shiny medical tools. But who really needs two ear flaps anyway? Ear flaps are overrated. Kelsie has been living a 1/2 ear flap life ever since and it’s been good. She uses said ear flap to make comedy. Huff is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago, Second City’s Conservatory, Writing and Stand-up Program, and iO’s Writing Program. Currently she performers and produces the kates; an all female comedy showcase in Lincoln Square. Kelsie has performed at The Lincoln Lodge, Doyle’s Pub, Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, Chicago Underground Comedy, Dairy Center for the Performing Arts, Lakeshore Theater, Olive Black, and Circuit. Kelsie has performed with sketch teams Children of the Absurdand Cornman, improvised with Theatre Momentum and Playground Theatre’s RECESS, and has written two one woman shows – HUFFS and BRUISER. www.kelsiehuff.com

Kevin Kinner
Born in Springfield, IL, Kevin Kinner grew up in a small rural town called Farmingdale, IL. His wit, sense of timing, and personality have drawn him to the stage to make people laugh. The fact that he’s not really good at anything else has also helped him out with that decision. Kevin began his stand-up comedy quest in the year 2005 AD. Winner of the 2006 Peoria Comedy Competition out of 40 comics. Kevin moved to Chicago to focus more on his stand-up comedy, and has performed numerous shows at comedy clubs, theaters, bars, convention halls, & awards banquets… for drunks, skanks, straights, nuns, kids, old folks, country bumpkins, yuppies, and everybody in-between, delivering the laughs on a regular basis. He has worked with Doug Stanhope, Augie Smith, John Roy, and plenty of others. Check him out at www.kevinkinner.com

Beth Stelling
Beth was a featured comic in this summer’s TBS Just For Laugh Festival Chicago. Described as a “Comedian To Watch” by the Chicago Tribune, Beth Stelling has been voted Best Comic by Chicago Reader and one of Chicago’s Funniest Comics by thelaughtrack.com. Her deadpan delivery allows audiences to warm up to her bold observations on family and relationships. She runs a showcase called Entertaining Julia, and can be seen regularly at the Lincoln Lodge and Underground comedy showcases. You can follow her at www.myspace.com/bethstellingcomedy .

Sean Flannery
Sean Flannery was recently voted the Best Stand Up Comic in 2010 by Chicago Reader. His one man show Never Been To Paris is currently a best pick by Metromix and a featured comedy pick by Time Out Chicago. He performs regularly at the Underground Comedy showcase at the Beat Kitchen, and the Lincoln Lodge in North Center. He writes and co-hosts a sports Podcast called the Visitor’s Locker Room, and you can follow his hilarious blog at www.worldsdumbestman.com .
