Chicago’s Hottest Up and Coming Comics. Super Cheap BYOB Showcase.
A relative newcomer, Studio BE has been presenting a Saturday night stand-up showcase since September of 2009. While Chicago offers an almost overwhelming variety of sketch, improv and stand-up events to watch on any given Saturday night, Studio BE has managed to find its niche while still holding true to its non-profit roots. The 75-seat, BYOB venue has just as much character as the comedians who perform in it. The lack of an actual defined “stage,” coupled with a pair of tables to either side of the performing area, creates an affable atmosphere between the audience and the comedians.
Hosted by Kelsie Huff and Kenny Metroff, the showcase presents a mixed bag of Chicago’s up and coming comedians, as well as an established headliner. The essence of studio BE’s Summer Stand-up series is not to provide completely polished acts, but rather to give the audience a chance to discover fresh local talent. Watching them hash out bits and re-work punch lines is a testament to how much work goes into making stand-up comedy funny. Studio Be does an excellent job at fostering talent, and still providing a hilarious Saturday night experience.
After the stand-up’s done, for an additional $5, stay and watch the midnight improvised comedy shows produced by Studio Be’s very own resident improv troupe pH Productions. That’s right, stand-up AND improv happily coexisting in the same building.

Studio Be is located at 3110 N. Sheffield Ave., Chicago IL, 60657 at the corner of Sheffield and Fletcher, in the heart of Lakeview. Street parking is available but sparse… there is a parking lot 300ft north of Studio BE with rates ranging between $3-$12. Studio BE is only one block off the Belmont EL Red, Brown or take the Belmont Bus 77 to Sheffield and walk 1 block south.
